California Plaza$1.5 billion mixed-use redevelopment project on Bunker Hill in Los Angeles. Open-space planning and design for Master Plan and Phase I.
Don PicoPrototype mixed-use project for El Cajon Boulevard (San Diego) revitalization including site planning and landscape design. Development criteria created for the city included density, site configuration, parking location, height, massing and landscape continuity.
Fifty-Five West/Las VegasDesign and illustration of recreation and public space concepts for the winning team in a competition for a major new mixed-use resort on the Las Vegas “Strip” between the Bellagio and Monte Carlo hotels. Worked with client to develop the open space program, whose concept is a new “unthemed” Las Vegas with a park system derived from the phenomena of the desert.
Market Creek PlazaLandscape design and site planning for a mixed-use retail and office development. The traditionally undercapitalized community in San Diego was empowered through workshops and financial support from the Jacobs Family Foundation with the goal of full local participation in decision-making, from financing and construction to selection of artists.
Monte VerdeThe site design defines a sequence of interconnected outdoor courtyards and gardens for both public and private use, allowing uninterrupted public access into and through the site and connecting it with its neighbors in San Diego’s suburban University Towne Centre.
Moreno Valley Civic CenterLandscape Master Plan for a new 75-acre civic center and Phase I implementation, including illustrative drawings for public presentation. Landscape design and architecture intended to provide an identity to a fast-growing young community in California’s Riverside County.
Murphy HillInnovative residential infill site plan and landscape plan for 120 units on 10 acres in Whittier, an old and historic city east of Los Angeles. Work with the architect to develop new housing with the open feeling of the former hospital which was in a single family neighborhood.
Playa VistaLandscape design for a high profile office park located on the historic site of the Hughes Aircraft Plant in Santa Monica, CA. The project features a rooftop garden on the parking structure and a multi-color fence that screens parking from office workers views.

Queensway Parking StructureWork with the City of Long Beach on the 400,000-square-foot Queensway Bay mixed use project. Site planning and landscape design for the 7,000-square-foot, seven-level, 2,011-space parking structure in this historic district.
Rio Shopping CenterUnconventional urban infill retail shopping center that has re-activated a depressed area in downtown Atlanta. Site development concepts and designs for exterior use areas including fountains, landscape and paving.
San Diego Federal CourthouseU.S. Courthouse site is a 60,000-square-foot series of plazas located on a major avenue in San Diego’s urban development zone. Project provides the opportunity to develop an iconic building, with street frontage responsive to pedestrian needs. The project also defines public space to serve as a link to the evolving open space system of downtown San Diego.
Sherman Heights Community CenterWorkshops guided the design for the center and neighborhood park. Joint use of land for park and center resulted from strong commitments from City, San Diego Department of Parks and Recreation officials and consultants to work out complicated land-use issues. The first phase restoration of Haines-Martinez house earned a Save Our Heritage Organisation preservation award, and the new center received a San Diego AIA Merit Award.
Sherman School for a Greener BarrioA volunteer educational program, directed by Spurlock Poirier Vice President Martin Poirier, working with the Sherman School faculty and community leaders to teach planning and landscape architecture to first through fifth graders. The annual event culminates in a large neighborhood tree planting, with plants and labor donated by San Diego area nurseries and volunteers.
Cedros CrossingA mixed-use, transit oriented development adjacent to the existing Amtrak and Coaster commuter rail station and platform, Cedros Crossing is designed to create public space for the community as well as gardens, retail space and residential courtyards. It integrates many components of Spurlock Poirier’s previous work on the Solana Beach Specific Plan, Plaza and Beach Park.
I-15 Freeway CoverDesign for a freeway cover over the mid-city portion of Interstate 15 which allowed transformation of a below-grade gash dividing a older San Diego neighborhood into a park which draws it back together. Evaluation of alternatives based on community objectives and implementation.
Wall Street PlazaCommercial mixed-use development with pedestrian streets and courtyard, hardscape, planting and lighting in the upscale San Diego suburb of La Jolla.
