Andrew Spurlock established the firm in 1988, to provide an innovative, site-conditioned approach, to both planning and landscape architectural design. He was soon joined by Martin Poirier, who had been a frequent collaborator and colleague since 1981. Poirier, who brought a zeal for interdisciplinary collaboration and a complementary passion for place-making, became a partner in 1990. In recognition of their talent, both partners have been named Fellows of the American Society of Landscape Architects.
Besides their training and experience as landscape architects, they have strong backgrounds in the liberal arts and fine arts that informs their work and the tone of the office, a studio-like environment which stresses inquiry, collaboration, idea-driven solutions and sound project management as well as excellence in client communication and service.
